AFRICA BEGINS WORLD
QUEST
The African trio of Nigeria, Cameroon and Cote D’Ivioire will
be slugging it out with other nations at the biggest footballing event for
women “FIFA Women World Cup”. Nigeria and Ghana are traditional superpowers at
this level, but the Black Queens of Ghana failed to book a flight to Ghana,
leaving Nigeria as the most experienced among the trio, having featured for all
tournaments at this level.
The Ladies from Ivory Coast will have their desk full when
they file out in Group B against traditional power Germany, European Super
Power Norway and Thailand. This group is not a group of death, but for the
Ivoriens, it sure is, because they will have to face an uphill task against
Germany and Norway, but a good showing against Thailand means they may be
mathematically through to the next round as one of the four third best-losers.
The Indomitable Lioness will no doubt prove stubborn for
Defending Champion Japan, Suitzerland Ecuador. A fair draw for the Camerounian
Ladies and it is expected that the Lioness should make one of the two tickets
to the round of sixteen. The Cameroonian who dumped Ghana out of the World Cup has
got experience and quality to match any team in the competition.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will slug it out in a group of
death that consists of former Champions USA and Sweden, with Australia
completing the group. Nigeria fired up by her experience, quality and
confidence must do well to get out of this group, as no team is a push-over.
The African Champion has all it takes to qualify from this group of death, and
hopes are that they won’t let their fans down.
