How to get people to listen to you

The reality is that most listeners are thinking, "Why do I need to know this?" "Who cares?" and "What's in it for me?"

Part of effective communication is being a good listener. If you want people to listen to you, be sure you are listening to them as well.
You may need to use different techniques with different cultures. As with Italian or French culture, they stereotypically tend to talk loudly, quickly, and with their hands. To get a word in, grab their hands or do
something to keep them down. This signals them that you want to say something.

Which technique is most important when you want people to listen to you?

Listening to them first

Cutting to the chase and making
your message clear

Reading your audience and adjusting
accordingly

Be aware of your body language while you are speaking.

Be nice

Be careful not to make offensive remarks.

Maintain eye contact

Speaking slowly usually makes people
concentrate on what you're saying.

Speaking quickly makes it look like you already know that you won't be listened to, so you try to get all the words in.

Be careful not to be too pushy. Know that people will not always agree with what you say.

Be careful not to be confrontational when speaking.
