Adetokunbo Ademola was born on September 1, 1906 in the capital city Egbaland, Abeokuta. After finishing hi
attended Cambridge University and first earned his BA and later his MA. He was at Cambrige from 1928 - 1931 and then was called to the bar at Middle Temple in London in 1934.
Ademola was back in Nigeria later in 1934, and began his work as Crown Counsel for the Attorney General. He succeeded and thrived in this position, and was added as an Assistant
Secretary for the southern secretariat in Enugu, Eastern Nigeria. By 1936 Ademola was becoming well known for his legal work, and in 1939 he was
appointed as Magistrate for the Protectorate Court. His work in this position was highly acclaimed, and by 1948 he was added as a committee member to work on the revision of
court legislation. The following year he was lifted up to the position of Pusine Judge. In 1955 Ademola was the first Nigerian to become the Chief Justice of Western Nigeria. This was an amazing honor that was noted across the
world, and within 2 years he received another tremendous accolade: in 1957 he was knighted and earned the title of Sir Adetokunbo Ademola.
By now he was building an impressive history on all accounts, he was the first Nigerian Chief Justice throughout the entire country, he was knighted, and in 1963 he had the additional honour of being named a Privy Councilor for
Queen Elizabeth.
He married Miss Kofo Moore, the first West African woman graduate- she took a BA at Oxford- and daughter of the late Eric Moore, first Lagos member of the United nations committee of experts advising on labor conventions and
regulations.
Sir Adetokunbo is also one of the founders and chairman of the Metropolitan Club, a founder member of the Island Club and vice patron of the Yoruba Club. Sir Adetokunbo was in the forefront of several peace moves in Nigeria.
He died on January 29, 1993 (aged 86).
