Sophie B. Oluwole studied in Moscow, Cologne, Lagos and Ibadan, where she obtained her PhD in 1984. Once the Acting Head of the Department of
Philosophy at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and President of the Nigerian Philosophical Association, she recently retired as Professor of Philosophy at the University of Lagos. She is the
founder of Imódòye: Journal of African Philosophy and editor of the African Philosophy Series published by Excel (Lagos). She has published on Yoruba oral traditions and philosophy, in
particular the Ifa corpus, and on African
perspectives on women and development.
She is quite outstanding in her
chosen career, very vocal in national issues, she was the dean of student affairs University of Lagos. Oluwole is not a campaigner for gender equality but does not support that women should
be relegated to the back ground. She is an Africanist and preaches a lot of moral gospel.
